7 Safe Shaving Tips for Women

Do you want a smooth shave each time? In that case, it is advisable to follow expert safe shaving tips for women. Without these guidelines, you may end up with cuts and nicks the first time you try using a razor. Razors are the most commonly used tools for unwanted hair removal in different body parts, and they are quite convenient to use for getting a smooth shave.

Top safe shaving tips for women that can guarantee a smooth shave every time:

  1. Avoid dry shaving
One of the first things to remember is never to dry shave as this heightens the chances of nicks and cuts. You must exfoliate your skin first before using the razor. This is why, it is best to shave after a shower or when finishing your bath. This is because the skin must be placed in warm water for it to become adequately soft and fit for shaving. Exfoliating is unarguably one of the best safe shaving tips because it ensures that the razor is not overloaded with dead cells that can hamper its efficiency.
  2. Focus on the direction
When shaving, you should pay attention to hair growth direction, and to ensure an effective and closer shave, you must shave in the direction opposite to the way the growth happens. So, since the hair on the legs grows downward, it is best to shave in an upward direction for better results. When you shower, the warm water will open your hair pores. So, after a shave, you must rinse the area well to remove any foam and then use cold water for closing the hair pores. You can even apply hydrating moisturizer or self-tanning lotion to avoid drying and flakiness.
  3. Check the water temperature
You must use cool water when shaving even if you use warm water for showering. The skin tends to become over soft when water is too hot, making it more prone to nicks and cuts.
  4. Use a shaving cream instead of soaps
When shaving with razors, it is imperative that you use proper shaving cream and not soap. While you may think that soaps are excellent lubricants, these may produce an astringent effect and cause dry and flaky skin after a shave. It is best to use a gel or foam meant for shaving or even hair conditioner that will allow the razor to glide across the skin smoothly.
  5. Use women’s razor
Another common mistake that women often make when shaving is using their husband’s razor. A man’s razor is designed for trimming beards while a woman’s razor is not designed the same way. You may use men shaving gel or foam but not their razors.
  6. Use a sunscreen
After shaving the skin tends to become over sensitive and it is best to protect it with sunscreen.
  7. Change the blades regularly
Finally, you must change the razor blades regularly. When you notice a lot of waste in the razor, it is best not to forcibly clean it using tools or brushes. It is best to replace the razor when you find that it cannot be rinsed easily with water. Such razors unless replaced can cause bacteria to enter the open pores next time you shave.
